Massive errors found in DOJ voter list

A new federal court analysis has revealed that more than 40 percent of the names on a Justice Department list of suspected noncitizen voters in California are entirely absent from the state's current voter rolls. Researchers with the UCLA Voting Rights Project examined a roster of over 20,000 individuals flagged by federal officials and discovered that 8,880 names could not be matched to official voter files. Furthermore, the analysis identified at least 22 individuals who appear to be U.S. citizens, with experts warning that the true number of wrongfully targeted citizens could be significantly higher. The findings were submitted in ongoing litigation brought by the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, challenging the administration's attempts to use federal immigration data to screen voters. The Justice Department had previously demanded that California election officials separate and withhold ballots associated with these individuals until citizenship could be verified, warning of potential criminal consequences. However, state officials rejected the demands, citing severe unreliability and the risk of disrupting an election where millions had already voted. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently rejected an emergency request from the administration to force California to set aside the disputed ballots, following a similar ruling by a federal district judge. While the Justice Department defends its actions as a necessary measure to prevent illegal voting and protect the integrity of federal elections, critics argue the deeply flawed data threatens to disenfranchise eligible voters and create chaos.
