Supermarket chain Aldi has announced a major £17.5 million investment to install solar panels across 230 additional stores between 2027 and 2031. The German retailer explains that each installation can meet up to 30 percent of a shop's yearly energy needs, building upon a previous £8.4 million initiative scheduled for 2025 and 2026. By the close of this year, more than 500 stores are expected to feature solar technology, bringing the company's total solar investment to approximately £26 million by 2031. Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, highlighted that utilizing empty roof space helps reduce grid dependence and boosts store sustainability. Additionally, the company continues its wider expansion, including new store openings backed by a separate £370 million property portfolio investment aimed at reaching 1,500 UK branches.
